Onion tomato chutney

INGREDIANTS:

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp urad dal
  • 4 red chilies
  • curry leaves
  • 2 medium chopped onions
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • salt per taste
  • little tamarind
  • 4 chopped tomatoes
  • Tadka/Tempering:
    • 1 tsp oil
    • 1/2 tsp  mustard seeds
    • 1/2 tsp urad dal
    • little asafotida
    • curry leaves

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Heat oil in a pan and add in urad dal, red chilies, and curry leaves. Let the mustard seeds splutter.
  • Add in the chopped onions, garlic cloves, salt and sauté until they turn translucent.
  • Now, add in the diced tomatoes, tamarind and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  • Allow the mixture to cool down and then transfer it to a blender. Blend until it becomes a smooth chutney. 
  • Heat some oil in a pan and add in the mustard seeds, urad dal, asafotida and curry leaves. wait until mustards seeds splutters, then pour them to the blended chutney and mix well.
  • Serve hot with idly or dosa, or use it as a dip for other snacks.
