Instant Pot Ven Pongal | Spicy Pongal | One pot Pongal recipe/ guru recipes / one pot spicy pongal recipe / instant pot pongal / one pot recipe



INGREDIANTS:

  • 1/2 cup moong dal / yellow lentils
  • 1 cup raw rice
  • 5 cup of water 
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 tsp ghee
  • 3 green chilies
  • 2 tbsp minced ginger
  • Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 cup cashew nuts
  • little asafotida

 INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Turn on saute mode, add raw rice and moong dal - sauté for 2 minutes.  It will give nice aroma.
  • Transfer to the bowl, Wash and soak them for 10 minutes.
  • Turn on saute mode, when it is hot add ghee, pepper, cumin seeds, curry leaves, asafotida, green chilies, minced ginger, and cashews.  Saute for a minute.
  • Add soaked and drained rice and dal - saute for 2 minutes
  • Add water and salt.  1 cup needs 3 to 3.5 cups of water.  Close the instant pot with sealing position.
  • Cancel saute mode, set high pressure for 8 minutes.
  • Open the lid after natural pressure release.  Mix them well.
  • Yummy Kara Pongal is ready, it can be served with Sambar and Chutney.

  • Here I used 6 QT DUO instant pot
  • Adjust water based on the consistency.
