Instant Pot Black Beans Curry

Black beans are also known as turtle beans. It has high protein and fiber content. They also contain several other key vitamins and minerals that are known to benefit human health.  

Black beans as part of a healthy weight loss diet can help you lose weight. These are high in fiber and low in fat. They keep you full for long periods of time.

    • 1 cup black beans
    • 3 cups of water
    • 1 cup chopped onion
    • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
    • 3 serrano pepper/ green chillies
    • 1 chopped tomato
    • Curry leaves (optional)
    • Salt to taste
    • 1/4 cup cream (optional)
    • Cilantro chopped
    • Powder:
      • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
      • 1 or 2 tsp Red Chilli Pepper Powder
      • 2 tsp Corriandar/ Dhaniya Powder
    • Tadka/ Tempering:
      • 1 or 2 Bay Leaves
      • 1 Cloves
      • 1 stick Cinnamon
      • 1 Cardamom
      • 2 Star Anise
      • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds

  • Soak the black beans overnight.
  • Turn on instant pot saute mode.  When pot is hot, add oil.
  • Add bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  • Add chopped onion, ginger garlic paste and green chillies.  Saute until it turns golden brown.
  • Add chopped tomato.  Saute for a minute.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, corriandar powder and salt - quick stir.
  • Add soaked and drained black beans with 3 cups of water.
  • Close the instant pot with sealing position. Cancel Saute mode, now set Bean/Chilli mode or high pressure 30 minutes.
  • Open the lid after natural pressure release.
  • Garnish with cilantro & cream.
  • Yummy and Healthy Black Beans Curry is Ready.  It goes well with Roti and Rice.
